Troy Davis was executed by the State of Georgia tonight. He was killed at 11:08 pm on September 21, 2011. I’m not sure if Troy Davis was innocent or not. However, there was enough doubt that I believe his case should have been looked into more closely. There was no deathbed confession. In fact, Troy Davis urged the family members of the victim to continue looking into the facts of the crime. Davis denied having a gun.
The execution was originally scheduled for 7:00pm tonight. It was delayed due to a last minute plea to the United States Supreme Court. However, the United States Supreme Court denied the petition and the execution commenced at 10:53 pm.
It is absolutely devastating to think that an innocent man may have died tonight.
There were so many people who came forward and asked for the Troy Davis execution to be stayed.
I don’t like the death penalty; it’s irreversible. If new evidence comes to light, it’s hard to get the original death sentence overturned. How can you execute someone if you aren’t sure if they actually committed the crime?
